Overview
The Europe and Asia in Global Affairs dual degree is available to all students who are interested in analysing European and Asian studies from both comparative and international relations perspectives.
For those who intend to focus on the first dimension, the dual degree provides the framework to compare Asian and European dynamics from an institutional (regionalism), geo-strategic (security issues), or historic (history in regards to memory) angle.
For those who prefer to focus on the second, the dual degree will look at how these two regions integrate into the global system and how they interact with third parties such as the United States. It will also help to understand the different approaches Asians and Europeans have regarding questions of world governance (financial stability, climate change).
The European Union sees Asia as the new frontier of its international policies due to the important challenges it faces on an economic (search for new markets) and a geopolitical level. This dual degree is aimed, at the same time, at European specialists who would like to deepen their understanding of Europe through comparing it to Asia, at Asian specialists who aspire to strengthen their understanding of Asia in relation to other regions, at International relations specialists eager to acquire a more specific insight on the challenges and content of Europe-Asia relations. The students enrolled in this dual degree will benefit from the research network between Sciences Po and Fudan University in terms of international relations.
Graduates of this dual degree have access to a wide range of career openings in European affairs in Europe or elsewhere in the world. They may apply for civil service positions and assignments directly on completing the master and for the European civil service after sitting an EPSO civil service examination. Some graduates choose to work in the private sector, in companies, consulting firms or lobbying groups. Still others join think tanks or research institutes or undertake a PhD with the aim of specializing in research.
Programme of studies
The Double degree Sciences Po – FUDAN on Europe and Asia in Global Affairs lasts two academic years. The first year will be spent at Sciences Po, in the Master Affaires européennes, specialisation “Europe and Asia in Global Affairs” and the second year will take place within SIRPA at FUDAN in the Degree International Politics, specialisation “Europe and Asia in Global Affairs”.
Students remain enrolled in both institutions for both years; they will therefore benefit from all the students’ services (free access to library, student unions, career services …).
Courses are multidisciplinary and students will have International Relations, History, Economics, Law, and Political Science with focus on Europe and Asia in Global Affairs. Students will also be asked to follow two language classes at Sciences Po.
Assessment will be the same as for the regular students enrolled in the school where the students study.
Final graduation will rely on the validation by the student of both years of the programme. Therefore, students get a temporary graduation in July at Sciences Po and graduate definitely once all the program is validated at FUDAN too the following year.
